"What Yash Raj's Ishaqzaade was originally titled"


Shakespeare asked, ‘what’s in a name?’ Yash Raj Films could well have pointed out that a film’s title has to express the essence of the movie, and draw the audience in, making it top priority. That’s probably why the banner changed the name of their upcoming release —
featuring  Boney Kapoor’s son, Arjun Kapoor, and Priyanka Chopra’s cousin, Parineeti Chopra — to Ishaqzaade.

Apparently, the tongue twister was not the original choice for the movie title, as the makers had almost settled on Tewar, which means attitude in Hindi.

But while filming, the production team, director Habib Faisal and producer Aditya Chopra felt the name didn’t gel with the subject of the film. They were of the opinion that Tewar didn’t resonate with their film that recounts the love story of two hot-headed youngsters with distinct personalities.

After brainstorming over a couple of days, they came to the conclusion that they needed the element of a love story to reflect in the title as well. Thus, the film was rechristened Ishaqzaade, which was loved by everyone.

A YRF spokesperson confirms the news, saying, “Yes, we had first thought of Tewar as a title, but then finalised Ishaqzaade. It was a collective decision taken by the team. The film is essentially a love story, so the name now echoes the soul of the film.” The film has already generated a favourable buzz with its engaging promo and recently released song, Pareshaan…
