New Delhi, April 13, 2012: On the auspicious occasion of ‘Baisakhi’, Kanwarjit Singh Sawhney (KJ Singh), National Award-winning sound engineer, music composer and producer in the music and film industries of India and Hollywood, today announced the launch of his independent music label, ‘Asli Music’. The label was launched with the release of a spiritual album, ‘ik on’kãr’, featuring the complete Japji Sahib – the first sacred composition found in the main Sikh holy scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib – in the voice of upcoming Sufi singing sensation Harshdeep Kaur, who very recently hit the charts with her song ‘Katiya Karun’ for the movie Rockstar. Harshdeep had earlier sung the first verse of Japji Sahib, the Mool Mantra, in Rang De Basanti.

Academy Award winning music maestro A R Rahman, who was the chief guest at the launch of Asli Music, also unveiled the album at a gala event in the capital’s India Habitat Centre. Living up to the name of his label of creating a platform for the purest of the pure, KJ Singh persuaded globally celebrated contemporary Indian artist, Arpana Caur for her painting Nanak for the album’s inlay cover and also brought the legendary national news presenter, voice-over artist, compere and actor Shammi Narang, who is also the MD of Studio Pindrop and the official announcer voice on Delhi Metro, to be the emcee for the launch of Asli Music.

The launch ceremony was attended by eminent members of the music fraternity including Rabbi Shergill, Gautam Ghosh, Shubha Mudgal, Madangopal Singh, Jassi, bands Indian Ocean and Parikrama, among several other dignitaries such as Komal GB Singh, Preet Bedi, Rini Khanna and Sadhna Srivastava. Harshdeep Kaur also sang few verses from Japji Sahib live. As a token of appreciation, KJ Singh presented mementos to those who supported him in the making of the music label.

“Literally meaning ‘real music’, Asli Music endeavors to bring a distinctive and fresh perspective to music by discovering, developing and promoting new talent which is original and novel. We aspire to be a full 360-degree music label soon, which will offer holistic solutions to artists, from training them to supporting them through their launch as professional artists by developing, publishing, promotion and distribution. We will also have services to allow producers easy licensing to our content for their movies and TV programs”, said KJ Singh, Big Chief of Asli Music on the launch.

“We are delighted to release our maiden album ‘ik on’kãr’ with Harshdeep Kaur and expect it to be a great hit with the listeners owing to not just its content but also the way it has been recorded and produced. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Arpana Caur for consenting to provide us with her precious painting of Guru Nanak Dev Ji for the inlay cover of the album”, he adds.

Asli Music has signed an exclusive license with Times Music Spiritual, for manufacturing and distributing the physical album worldwide and digital distribution in India for three years. Asli Music has also digitized the album for allowing downloading of content, both online as well as on mobile handsets. Through its global partnership with Rebeat Digital, Asli Music will also distribute its digital content to over 300 online music stores and partners worldwide, including iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Napster, EMusic, and Nokia OVI Stores, among others.

Speaking about the significance of his first album, KJ Singh said, “The complete Japji Sahib, ‘ik on’kar’, promises to balance various aspects of yourself, and stir your soul. It is said that reciting the complete Japji Sahib including the mool mantra, 38 hymns and one slokã brings prosperity and success, uplifts the soul, imparts peace and stability, heals, brings deep intuition, freedom and universal knowledge, and helps overcome obstacles. In the near future, we will soon be launching more music albums across various genres, which will again be selected and nurtured in the purest form.”
